Asian Paints TruCare Red Oxide Metal Primer is a solvent-based anti-corrosive alkyd undercoat with corrosion-resistant pigments, made to protect ferrous metal — window grills, safety gates, railings and metal furniture frames — from rust and moisture. It is touch dry in 15 to 30 minutes, but the oil-based binders need a strict 10 to 12 hours before a second coat or the enamel topcoat. It comes in 500 ml, 1 L and 4 L packs, from quick patch repairs to full metal fixture repainting.

Application Guide

Surface Prep: Sand rusted or scaled metal with Emery Paper 180, then wipe away grease, rust powder and debris
Thin the Primer: Use Mineral Turpentine Oil (MTO) — 8–10% by volume (80–100 ml per litre) for brush or roller, or 15–20% (150–200 ml per litre) for spray, to get proper atomisation
Apply: Put on an even coat. It is touch dry in 15 to 30 minutes
Wait: Allow a strict 10 to 12 hours before a second coat or your enamel topcoat. Recoating at about 6 hours traps solvent vapours and ruins the finish
Topcoat: Sand lightly with Emery Paper 320, then apply your oil-based enamel

1) Can I use it on aluminium window frames or plastic profiles?

No. It is an undercoat for ferrous metal only, meaning iron and structural steel. For aluminium, galvanized steel or zinc-coated panels, use a yellow etch primer or zinc-chromate undercoat, or the paint will peel off.

2) How much should I thin it?

Thin with Mineral Turpentine Oil (MTO): 8–10% by volume (80–100 ml per litre) for brush or roller, and 15–20% (150–200 ml per litre) for spray, which atomises it properly. Measure rather than estimate.

3) How long must I wait between coats, and how many coats do outdoor gates need?

Wait a strict 10 to 12 hours before a second coat or the enamel topcoat, even though it is touch dry in 15 to 30 minutes. For steel facing harsh sun, humidity or rain, two coats are recommended.

4) Can I use it as a final finish coat?

No. It is strictly an undercoat with a flat, porous texture. It must be top-coated with a polyurethane or gloss enamel for lasting weather protection.
