Asian Paints WoodTech PU Exterior Matt is a clear, solvent-based polyurethane wood finish that gives exterior woodwork a smooth, glare-free matt look. Its UV-guarded film resists yellowing, and it offers high hardness with scratch and stain resistance. It is a two-part kit — base resin and PU Exterior Hardener — and works best applied with a professional spray machine for a factory-smooth finish.
Key Features
- Non-Yellowing UV-Guarded Film: Specialized UV guards keep exterior wood from yellowing
- Flexible Film: Moves with the wood as it expands and contracts, so the coating resists cracking even on curved edges
- Hard, Scratch and Stain Resistant: Suited to doors, railings and outdoor furniture in daily use

1) Can I use WoodTech PU Exterior Matt on indoor furniture like dining tables or wardrobes?
It's not recommended. This product is formulated for outdoor weather exposure. For indoor woodwork, use WoodTech PU Interior Matt (Product Code 2103), which is optimised for indoor conditions.
2) What is the mixing ratio?
The base resin to hardener ratio is 80:20 by volume — 4 parts base to 1 part hardener. The tin holds both the larger base resin and the mandatory smaller hardener container as a single kit. Mix thoroughly with the recommended thinner (15–30% WoodTech PU Thinner) before applying.
3) How does the flexibility of the PU film help my exterior woodwork?
Wood expands and contracts with outdoor temperature, humidity and sun. The strong yet flexible PU film moves with the wood, which stops the coating from cracking, even on curved edges or intricate carvings.
4) Can I get a different colour or sheen?
This is a clear coat that shows off the natural grain. To add colour, apply exterior-grade WoodTech Wood Stains before sealing, or look at the opaque PU Palette line for solid shades. For a custom satin or semi-gloss sheen, the brand allows mixing the Exterior Matt and Exterior Glossy finishes in specified ratios.
5) How long can I keep the mixed finish, and how long between coats?
Once mixed and thinned, use the finish within 3 hours — polyurethane hardener reacts quickly with humidity, so discard any mix left past that. Allow 6–8 hours of drying between coats; it is surface dry in about 25 minutes and tack-free in 3 hours.
