SHEENLAC Wax Type Paint Remover is a heavy-duty, solvent-based stripper for renovation and restoration jobs. It breaks down old paint, varnish, lacquer and specialised coatings on metal panels, hardwood furniture and masonry walls, saving time and labour. The wax in the formula slows evaporation, so the solvents stay active on the surface longer. It is strong enough to melt plastic, so keep it off plastic trim, PVC and fibreglass. It comes in a 1 Litre pack for major overhauls and a 500 ml pack for touch-ups and small jobs.
Key Features
- Fast-Acting: Quickly dissolves and lifts old paint, varnish, lacquer and specialised coatings
- Kind to the Base Material: Cuts through the finish while preserving the wood grain or the metal underneath
- Easy to Apply: A smooth, even consistency you can put on by brush or spray

How to Apply
- Protect Yourself: The raw chemical causes immediate, severe skin burns and irritation. Wear chemical-resistant nitrile or PVC gloves, splash goggles and an organic-vapour respirator. A fabric dust mask gives no protection against the solvent fumes
- Prepare: Work in a well-ventilated area and shake the container well before opening. Mask or keep the remover off any plastic, acrylic, fibreglass or PVC parts
- Apply: Brush or spray a thick, even layer over the paint with a chemical-resistant tool
- Wait: Let it rest for a few minutes until the old paint dissolves, bubbles or lifts
- Scrape: Gently scrape off the loosened paint with a putty knife or paint scraper
- Clean Up: Scrub the bare surface thoroughly with NC Thinner or Mineral Turpentine Oil (MTO) to remove the wax film before you prime or paint
You May Also Need
- Surface Prep Gear: A 5-inch sanding disc or a heavy-duty crimped wire cup brush for stubborn spots left after scraping
- Spot Stripping: An AEROLUB Paint Remover Spray (400 ml) for tight corners and carved woodwork
- Anti-Corrosion Priming: On stripped bare metal, apply a zinc yellow metal primer or Asian Paints Rust-O-Fix straight away to stop rust forming

1) Which pack size should I choose?
The 500 ml pack suits small jobs such as stripping a single chair, spot-treating metal panels or testing the surface first. Choose the 1 Litre pack for bigger work like full furniture restoration, stripping wall paint or complete bodywork.
2) Will it damage the surface under the paint?
It is safe on mild steel, cast iron, hardwood timber and masonry, and cuts through the finish while preserving the wood grain or metal underneath. It will, however, melt, dissolve and permanently warp plastic, acrylic sheets, fibreglass and PVC, so never use it on those, including plastic trim panels.
3) What is a wax-type paint remover?
The wax slows the evaporation of the strong solvents. That keeps the remover active and wet on the surface for longer, so it can work through several deep coats of old paint.
4) Do I need to wash the surface after scraping?
Yes. A thin wax film stays behind, so scrub the bare surface thoroughly with NC Thinner or MTO to remove it. Otherwise your fresh primer won't stick properly.
5) What safety gear do I need?
The raw chemical causes severe skin burns and irritation on contact. Wear chemical-resistant nitrile or PVC gloves, splash goggles and an organic-vapour respirator. Ordinary fabric dust masks offer zero protection against the toxic solvent fumes.
6) Can I use it indoors?
Yes, it is rated for indoor and outdoor use, but it is a strong solvent. Work in a well-ventilated area with windows open, wear the respirator, and avoid breathing the fumes for long.
